Brendan Pollard, Michael Daniel, and Phil Booth are an electronic music trio very much
in the tradition of '70s Berlin School.
Phil and Michael met in an online EM forum. Being only 30 miles apart, they decided to get
together for a few music sessions. One of those sessions also included Jez Creek. The three
decided to do a live concert together and in February, 2009 played at Awakenings as Cerberus,
pruary, erforming a live soundtrack to the old black and white film, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari."
One of the audience members was Brendan Pollard.
Brendan had been producing EM for a few years and releasing some as Rogue Element with
Jerome Ramsey. Shortly after the Awakenings concert he was offered a couple of gigs at
E-Live in Holland and Hampshire Jam in England. As Jerome wasn't available to play, Brendan
needed to find some help to be able to play 100% live. He contacted Michael and Phil
to see if they would be interested. Both certainly were. The three got together at Brendan's
studio in Bedford, UK in March, 2009 for a weekend session, during which the music for the
first album was recorded. With the exception of PDB 8, all albums were recorded live in
one take or were live concert recordings.
The band had a few more sessions and then in September, 2009 played at Awakenings, followed
by E-Live and Hampshire Jam in October of that year. Some more sessions followed in 2010 and
another appearance at Awakenings in February, 2010. Unfortunately, later that year, Brendan
had a change in personal circumstances that meant he had to move house and close down his
studio and take a break from making music. Michael had a solo slot at an Awakenings concert
in September of that year, so the three decided to do a full PDB set as a farewell concert.
The band had one more studio session and then parted ways.
Phil and Michael continued playing together as Daniel and Booth. They also had several other
solo and collaborative projects over the years. Then in 2018, Brendan contacted the two saying
he had managed to rebuild a new studio, including many of the instruments he'd had to sell
years before. In the summer of 2018, the three convened in Brendan's new studio for a weekend
session. This was the first time they multitracked a session. Due to some technical issues,
and general rustiness, the recordings needed some more work. So Phil and Michael got together
at Michael's studio to do some additional recording, then Michael did his magic and produced
the album, which became PDB 8.
Since then, the band members have continued to work separately and together on various other
projects, but PDB is still ongoing. At some point there will be more music.
